Background to the World Fund Raising Conference
Key among the recommendations by the participants to the Africa Fund Raising Symposium held from 9th -11th December at the Henessi hotel, Nairobi, Kenya, was the need to make the event an annual one and also scale it to reflect the fund raising and resource needs of development organizations on a global scale; hence our current focus.
Need for Symposium
Every organization hopes to acquire long-term support from a range of donors and establishing strong and lasting relationships with donors can help an organization achieve its fund raising goals much faster. This unique experience, an opportunity to have a one on one platform to engage and network with a cross section of donors, managers of key foundations, managers of leading NGOs, INGOs and other institutions, provides an excellent opportunity to create effective and result oriented networks and orient your organization’s fund raising strategies to affect more of the change that motivates your mission.
Organizations are always faced with competing priorities regarding donor opportunities. The purpose of this symposium is to provide organizations with a road map or criteria for assessing whether and how to respond to a donor opportunity, equip you with skills to proactively seek out new sources of funding from a range of donors, enable organizations identify strategic networking and marketing opportunities, positioning your organization as a sub or prime and know how to sequentially and effectively develop an articulate fund raising plan. This symposium is the first step in the process that ties legacy and strategic priorities to fund raising.
Indeed, as an internationally oriented organization, you have to pay close attention when traditional ways of fund raising are shifting and new opportunities open up to embrace new strategies which help will unlock donors’ full potential.
Additionally, this global forum enables you to creatively design, implement and maintain communication systems which apply advances in communication technology to raise more funds for your organization: accessing cloud-based donor management software for more funding and securing your institutional memory, Use of digital wallets, mobile apps to make it easier for your organization to receive donor funds from international forums, blogging and optimization of the online donation experience!
Overall Objective
By the end of the symposium, you will be able to decide on the strategic priorities for your organization and model fund raising strategies and plans that are most critical to the vision and mission of the organization through 1) deepening technical expertise in fund raising 2) broadening geographic area of fund raising 3) developing expertise in a new program area; and 4) replicating or expanding promising models or approaches.
