Need for Training

The cumulative effects of heightening demands for shrinking donor resources, demands for more recipient accountability on grant funds coupled with increased governments’ focus on NGOs and other humanitarian agencies have changed the context in which Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Non-Profit Organizations(NPOs),Faith Based Organizations(FBOs) and other charitable organizations work. NGOs and other Not for Profit organizations are not immune from Taxation, Reporting and other Compliance requirements and non adherence exposes the organizations to significant risk of non-compliance penalties and fines including deregistration, severance or suspension of funding and failure and/or delay in accessing funding from local and international donors who place these compliance issues as part of Organization Capacity Assessment as conditions precedent to disbursement of grant funds.

While several avenues are available for NGOs and NPOs to seek exemptions on specific areas, NGOs and NPOs must familiarize themselves with these requirements and the available exemptions and aggressively seek these exemptions; Thus, Organization Policy Makers, Senior and Middle level Managers must understand what the legislative requirements are, avenues for seeking exemptions and other planning measures that they can take advantage of as a basis of mitigating non- compliance exposures and reducing the overall costs to the organization.

In response to the above critical needs, Asset Africa Institute will conduct a 3 day training workshop on Finance, Tax & Compliance for NGOs and other NPOs including FBOs, Trustees and Charities. The 3 day highly interactive will cover important Compliance Requirements specific to NGOs and other NPOs, in the following areas- Taxation (PAYE, WHT, VAT, Business (where applicable) other Pertinent tax issues including Tax implications for Expatriates, foreign staff and foreign offices, benefits, consultants. Other areas to be covered will be Tax Planning, Tax Crimes and KRA Audits. The Seminar will also discuss emerging tax issues including ‘’business income’’ for NGOs, Financial Reporting for NGOs, Labor Laws relating to humanitarian and development work and Compliance issues affecting NGOs .
